Welcome to 4 Paws 2 Freedom
At 4 Paws 2 Freedom, we are committed to enhancing the well-being and mental health of our first responders and supporting our community through the healing power of specially trained canines. Our Facility & Peer Support Canine Program allows us to partner with first responder agencies and legal organizations to provide emotional support where it’s needed most.
Our programs are designed to assist first responders, witnesses, and those involved in the justice system by offering comfort, stability, and emotional relief during stressful and difficult times.
The Facility & Peer Program
A Facility & Peer Support canine is a highly trained therapy canine that is placed with first responder agencies to provide ongoing emotional support. These canines are selected for their temperament, patience, and ability to provide comfort and companionship during times of crisis, as well as engaging the community they serve. They undergo extensive training to become proficient in the therapeutic role and are paired with first responders or agencies in need.
Our Facility & Peer Support Program is designed to support first responders by offering a therapeutic presence at the workplace. These canines can be present during critical incidents, team debriefings, and during everyday operations to help reduce stress and promote emotional well-being.
Once the team has successfully completed all levels of the Facility & Peer program, which includes 3 levels of AKC certificates, at 6 months, 1 year, and every 3-year mark thereafter, they will be required to recertify as a team.
How It Works
Once selected, a Facility & Peer canine is trained to work alongside the first responder teams at fire stations, police departments, courtrooms, schools and other emergency agencies. The canine’s role is to be a calming presence, helping individuals cope with the emotional impact of their daily responsibilities and connect with the community they serve.
The canines are typically present at the facility, where they become part of the team, offering unconditional support when needed most. They are not just a source of comfort in times of crisis, but also play a crucial role in overall mental health by providing emotional balance to help prevent burnout and stress.
The Benefits of Facility & Peer Canines
Emotional Support: Therapy canines provide a non-judgmental, compassionate presence that helps first responders manage stress, anxiety, and trauma. Their companionship can be especially healing after responding to particularly difficult or traumatic calls.
Reduced Stress: The calming effect of interacting with a therapy canine is scientifically proven to reduce stress levels, lower heart rate, and promote a sense of peace.
Improved Morale: Having a therapy canine in the workplace can help create a positive environment, boosting team morale and fostering a sense of camaraderie and support among first responders.
Ongoing Mental Health Support: Facility & Peer canines offer continuous emotional support, making them a valuable part of the overall well-being strategy for first responder agencies.
The Courtroom Canine Program
What is a Courtroom Canine?
In addition to our Facility & Peer Canine Program, 4 Paws 2 Freedom also offers Courtroom canines that are trained to assist witnesses during testimony. These canines are placed in legal settings to offer emotional support to individuals, particularly those who are vulnerable, anxious, or traumatized, such as children, victims of crime, or witnesses who may find the courtroom setting overwhelming.
How We Can Help
We assist legal agencies in selecting the right Courtroom Canine for their needs, ensuring that the canine’s temperament, training, and skills align with the specific requirements of the case. Once a suitable canine is selected, we provide the necessary training to ensure that the canine is ready to work in the courtroom environment.
The Benefits of Courtroom Canines
Emotional Comfort: Courtrooms can be intimidating and emotionally taxing for witnesses. A courtroom canine offers unconditional emotional support, helping witnesses feel safer and more at ease.
Increased Testimony Accuracy: Witnesses, particularly those in sensitive situations, are more likely to give clear and truthful testimony when they feel emotionally supported.
Improved Legal Process: The presence of a courtroom canine helps reduce the anxiety associated with testifying, making the legal process more accessible and less stressful for vulnerable individuals.
