Service Dog: defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as a dog that is individually trained to perform work or tasks for a person with a disability. These tasks are directly related to the person’s disability and can include guiding individuals with visual impairments, alerting those with hearing impairments, detecting seizures, providing psychiatric support, or assisting with mobility challenges
Facility/Peer/Therapy Canine: are not service dogs, their primary role is emotional comfort, stress reduction, and social connection, rather than performing specific tasks for a disability. They are selected for their calm temperament, patience, and ability to offer unconditional support during stressful or traumatic situations to First Responder Agencies, healthcare and educational settings.
